Default timing chain marks 1996 buick

    i have a 1996 buick skylark which i'm rebuilding. (3100 v6)
i'm using the hayes manual 38025 and in 2d - 15 it tells how to install timing chain. the book shows the alignment in 15.9 but my motor has a slotted gear with no mark on it and only one bolt in the center. how is this paticular gear set for the timing?

dnrose - There is a chain dampner in between the two gears. This has a mark on the top for the camshaft and on the bottom for the crankshaft. Its basically 6 O'clock for the camshaft and 12 O'clock for the crankshaft.

ok but where is the mark for the camshaft gear? as of now i have it positioned so the sensor slot on the camshaft is directly under the sensor... is this correct?

dnrose - The Camshaft dowel pin should be at the 3 O'clock position and the locator hole is at the 6 O'clock position.
