    Default 97 Mitsubishi Galant Transaxle

My owner's manual tells me to check the transaxle fluid level, warmed up and in NEUTRAL. The Haynes manual in Chapter 1 Section 6 states to check the level in PARK. There is a huge difference in the readings so I need to know who is correct.

    Hi ritchie56,

On most vehicles the ATF level is checked in Park. The difference should not be all that much different when checking the level in Park or Neutral. The difference you're experiencing might be due to moving the shifter out of Park, through Reverse, then into N. But if that isn't the case, go with what your owner's manual says.
