    Default Saturn ignition housing

    Hello Robert,

The ignition lock cylinder housing is retained to the steering column with two shear-head bolts. These are removed by carefully drilling out the center of the bolts with a 1/8-inch drill bit, then unscrewing them with a screw extractor. When installing the new housing, tighten the special shear bolts until the heads break off.

If you have any further questions, feel free to call our tech line at 1-800-4-HAYNES.

Thanks for your interest in Haynes.

It is true that steering columns are not included in the Haynes manual partly because of the complexity and variance between models. Some columns are custom made by the D.O.T. to certify compressibility, and airbag employability during a crash.

Be sure to choose your specific yr./model and then choose the right color (if applicable). Also, check to make sure your replacement column isn't already damaged. They collapse for a reason.
