Default F150 302 Oil Pressure gauge goes nuts after engine warms up.

Hi Guys - I just purchased a 1990 F-150 with a 302 engine. The truck runs fine, but after the engine warms up the oil pressure gauge starts bouncing erratically from one side of the gauge to the other. There is no noticeable engine noise when this happens so I suspect a sending unit or bad gauge. Is this a common problem or maybe I have a more serious issue. Any help would be appreciated.

I bought the truck on a whim from an estate so I really don't know what the past maintenance has been. The odometer show 69K but it could be 169K.

    Thanks for your advice.

    Hi COLLOAD,

It is probably a bad sending unit, but just to be safe it would be a good idea to check your oil pressure with a gauge. Since you'll be removing the sending unit to do that, you might as well pick up a new one and install it after the oil pressure check.
