Thread: Ford Explorer Intake Manifold

    Question Ford Explorer Intake Manifold

    Haynes Team,

I'm using manual #36024, working on a '96 Ford Explorer with a 4.0 liter OHV engine.

The lower intake manifold removal procedure in my version of the repair manual makes no mention of the fuel rail. I'm removing the manifold in order to replace the lower intake gasket. As long as I disconnect the fuel feed and return lines, as well as the fuel injector electrical connectors, can I safely remove the manifold with the fuel rail attached or will the fuel rail impede removal?

    Thanks

    Hi FB14,

I'm pretty sure you can leave the injectors in place. One thing that you'll want to do before you disconnect the battery is relieve the fuel system pressure (that's in Chapter 4).
