Default Ford Explorer Blend Door Actuator

    Hi Haynes Team

I'm using manual #36024 and working on a 96 Ford Explorer XLT, 4 door, 4 wheel drive. My problem is the climate control only outputs high heat even when it is set to max cold.

My questions are: Is there a way to determine if the problem lies with the heater controls or with the blend door actuator? And do you have instructions for replacing the blend door actuator? I don't see them in Chapter 3 of the manual.

    Thanks

    Hi Firebird14,

Unfortunately, information on the climate control system is not included in the manual. The testing procedure section in the factory service manual is almost 30 pages long, with various references to another factory manual (the Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual). It's really beyond the scope of the typical do-it-yourselfer. Additionally, the factory service manual doesn't have a replacement procedure for the blend door actuator. On most vehicles, those are mounted on the side of the HVAC housing and secured with a couple of screws.
