Thread: Timing Chain Installation

    Default Timing Chain Installation

If a 2006 Huyndai Sonata with dual overhead cams jumps time, what other problems should we look for? What else could have broken or need repaired?

It's very unusual for a timing chain engine to "jump time." If it indeed has, the timing chain tensioner(s) might be defective or you might have a problem with one of the sprockets. You didn't state what engine your Sonata has (4-cyl or V6), but they are both "interference" engines, meaning that the valves will contact the pistons and bend if the valve timing is off. To confirm this you would do a compression check.
