Default 1997 Avenger ES starter removal

    Hi all,

I am pretty sure the starter on my 1997 Avenger ES 2.5 is bad so I am in the process of changing it. I was able to get the mounting bolts out and the battery cable on the solenoid but there is another wire which goes on the solenoid with some sort of clip and I simply cannot figure how to take that wire off and I do not want to break the clip. Any ideas???

Also, would I need to drop the exhaust pipe in order to pull the starter down or is it possible to slide it out without having to remove it?

    Thanks,

    Glenn

    Hi Partsman,

According to the Haynes manual, you have to remove the front exhaust pipe if you have a coupe model.

As far as the solenoid electrical connector goes, many connectors have a locking tab that has to be depressed to allow the connector to be unplugged. On others, a locking tab must be pried up instead. The Dodge factory service manual does not specify what kind of locking feature the connector has.
