    Hi MADcHATTER,

Those illustrations are in the most current copy - contact one of our tech service reps at 1-800-442-9637 - they will get you a replacement manual. In the meantime, here are the torque sequences (draw a rectangle to represent the manifold, then add the sequence numbers); from the front of the engine to the rear:

    1994 and 1995 models:
    Driver's side - 9-6-1-3-7
    Passenger's side - 4-2-5-8

    1996 and 1997 models:
    Driver's side - 11-5-1-3-7
    Passenger's side - 9-6-2-4-8

Somehow those were omitted during a reprint.

Well, according to the 1994 Ford factory service manual there are 5 on one side and 4 on the other. However, I did mix up the driver's side and passenger's side bolts on the '94 and '95 models. On later versions of the 4.6L engine there are 5 on each side.

A good rule of thumb is to start with the bolts at the center of the manifold and alternate sides, working out towards the ends. Tighten the bolts a little at a time (three or four steps) until the final torque is reached, and everything will be fine.
