    Default Belt issues

I recently just got done replacing my AC compressor and several other AC components in my 99 Honda Civic DX. When I got done putting the belts on and tightening them up I started the car. I immediately noticed smoke coming from the belt area. I turned off the car and loosened the belt. I started it back up and gave it another shot. It took a while, but eventually it started squealing and smoking again. What are some possible causes of this? I did have trouble loosening the idler pulley the first time and had to take the entire idler pulley bracket off and use a pair of vise grips to get the nut off. I replaced it with a new nut from Home Depot and put it all back together. Could the idler pulley be bad all of a sudden? Did not have this problem before I took the car apart.

    Thanks,

    Matt

Ok, I just took the idler pulley assembly off of the car. I tightened the nut down, like I would after setting the tensioning screw, and poof! The pulley does not spin. Why would this be seized when the nut is tightened down? Has the pulley gone bad?

Just answered my own question, idler pulley was shot. Put on a new pulley and new belt and the problem is gone.
