Default lower crank case removal on 4.6 northstar motor

I'm leaking oil from the lower crankcase seal and my book does not say if i can remove the lower crankcase without having to take apart the top of the motor.

    Hi W henderson,

If you were referring to the crankshaft front oil seal or rear main oil seal, you wouldn't have to remove the top end components or remove the engine. To remove the lower crankcase to replace the seals that run along each side of the block, though, you're going to at least remove the engine (the lower crankcase holds the crankshaft in place) and turn it upside down, then you could unbolt the lower crankcase and take it off. That could be done without removing the timing chain and heads (which the book doesn't cover due to the special tools required), but you might want to consider a complete rebuild at that point.
