Default Dodge Ram Diesel Fuel Filter

I replaced the fuel filter on my 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel. I have been attempting to prime the canister by tapping the ignition switch, but have not had any success. I followed the procedure in the manual and can hear the transfer pump running, but very little fuel is going into the canister. The truck is on a fairly level surface and has about 3\4 tank full. Would it help to prime the filter manually? The truck was running OK before I did this.

    Hi jbrindamour,

Just to be clear, did you loosen the banjo fitting at the fuel injection pump, turn the key to the Crank (start) position, then back to Run to activate the fuel pump?

Yes. I loosened the banjo fitting shown in the illustration. I then cranked the starter momentarily, then back to Run. I could hear the fuel pump run for about 15 - 20 seconds. I did this numerous times.

    Hello jbrindamour,

Refer to the following Steps (after Step 28) in our manual under the "Bleeding" portion of Section 30 in Chapter 1. Good luck with this procedure.
