Thread: VW Jetta MK4 MKIV 1.8T Automatic Transmission Pan Torque

  1. #1

Default VW Jetta MK4 MKIV 1.8T Automatic Transmission Pan Torque

    Book part number 96018.
    ISBN 1 56392 475 7 799-3082

When changing ATF, on page 1-28 section 32 paragraph 11 ends with "tighten each bolt a little at a time to the torque listed in this Chapter's Specifications".

On page 1-2 under "Torque Specifications" the only two torques provided are for spark plugs and wheel bolts.

Also, the torques provided on page 7B-1 do not include the screws for the pan.

What is the proper torque for the four automatic transmission pan screws? What lubricant, if any, should be applied to the threads?

Tighten those bolts to 108 inch-lbs (12 Nm). That's inch-pounds, not foot-pounds (you wouldn't believe how many people don't know the difference!)
No need to lubricate the threads.
