    Default 2004 Saturn Ion

I have a 2004 Saturn Ion. The key is badly worn and no longer turns the ignition switch. According to your manual, a key is required to remove the switch/lock. Can you help me?

    Hi David,

The manufacturers design the lock cylinder that way (so it's necessary to have the key in order to remove it). If the lock cylinder could be removed without the key, it would be very easy for thieves to remove it and steal the car!

You'll either have to remove the lock cylinder housing and replace it, or drill out the center of the lock cylinder so the tumblers don't prevent it from turning. The housing is retained by shear-head bolts, so you'll have to turn them counterclockwise with a hammer and chisel, or drill through the center of each bolt and unscrew them with a screw extractor.
