I'm using repair manual 87010 for the Saturday S-series. I don't see a procedure for replacing the serpentine belt tensioner. In Chapter 2 Part A, Section 6, page 2A-7, the repair procedure for the Timing chain says in step 2, "Remove the crankshaft damper/pulley and remove the drivebelt tensioner."

Is removing the tensioner as simple as just unbolting it or are there other steps?

Thank you

Hi Firebird14,

Usually the tensioner removal and installation procedure is in Chapter 1, in the drivebelt replacement procedure. If it isn't, email one of our tech service reps at research@haynes.com. Tell them the year of your Saturn, what engine it has, what book you're using, and also the number/letter combination on the title page, just to the right of the Haynes logo. Or give them a call - the number is on the last page of your manual. They'll do what they can to help.

In general, drivebelt tensioners are attached one of two ways: The arm of the tensioner is bolted directly to the front cover, and to remove it you unscrew the pivot bolt. On the other type, the tensioner arm is bolted to a bracket, which is bolted to the front cover. To remove it, you remove the bolts securing the bracket, not the pivot bolt.
