I have a 1999 Mercury Mystique GS. I bought the manual for Ford Contour & Mercury Mystique 1995 thru 2000 and noticed after checking the VIN and the manual, that the manual, does not cover the motor in my car. The funny thing is that the motor in the car on the cover of the manual is the motor I have. The model year of the motor is 1999 but the manual only goes to model year and code W.....1998. Where do I find the right info on this motor? My engine code according to my VIN is 3-X.
My next question is this.
Why sell a manual that says it covers 1995 thru 2000 if it does not contain all the information and all the motors that were available for that make and model of vehicle?

Hi LoganPY,

The manual does cover your vehicle. Your engine code, "3," listed on the Vehicle identification numbers page, remained the same through model year 2000 (so did "L" for the V6). The model year codes after 1998 weren't added to that page, though, so here they are: X = 1999 (but you know that already!) and Y = 2000.

If you'll notice, in the Specifications sections of various chapters, you'll see certain specifications broken out by model year groupings, such as "1995 through 1998 models" and "1999 and later models." Certain procedures only apply to later models, too. Valve adjustment on the four-cylinder engine (Chapter 2A, Section 23), for example, only applies to 1999 and 2000 models.
