I have the same problem, but I can tell you don't tighten them all the way down. See, some lash is solid stop and others are hydralic. I am quite sure the Hydralic require some play. The specs are in Chilton and Haynes but they say two different things man I wish I could get the specs for you but I can't seem to pinpoint mine myself. I found on my ford a picture identifying my lifters as hydralic, course I did'nt do the top end on this car so they:mad: could be the wrong rockers. Anyway, if you do tighten them down all the way and they are supposed to have a lash oh say around 021-084 (my problem )the damn car aint even gonna turn over. woooh.

Hello busted knuckels and Ibender: On most GM/Chevy engines with adjustable lifters, the adjustment spec. is 3/4 to 1 1/2 turns past zero lash. Most problems are from not being able to find zero lash, and people tighten the adjustment too tight. See your Haynes manual on how to find zero lash.

the haynes manuel is the best one that says it right. look under vavle adjustment and it will show u how. you do not torque them down or tighten them. u do number 1 first then go from there. I use the haynes everytime i do one on a 4.3 and it never failed.
