Hi Harold,

So I guess you got a Haynes manual? I hope you've been able to find the problem. If the problem showed up right after a cooling system flush, it's possible that the thermostat was not put back in the vehicle. It's fairly common to remove the thermostat during a cooling-system flush. Another symptom of this would be that the engine is running extra cool. You'd know this if your vehicle is equipped with a temperature gauge. Many vehicles only have an overheat warning light, so you might not know if your cooling system is not building up ENOUGH heat.

Another thing to check is coolant level. When the cooling system is refilled, air pockets develop, which are only worked to the top of the system after sufficient circulation. After flushing the system, you'll want to run the engine for a while with the heater on and check the coolant level again (make sure the engine is cool!). Since the heater-core is often the high-point in the cooling system, an under-filled cooling system will sometimes prevent sufficient coolant flow through the heater core.
