I am trying to change the heater core on a 98 grand prix gt. the haynes manual is not real clear on this model. Do I have to take the whole dash out? it looks like the radio/ac controls are in the way. I can't figure out how to take off the heat/ac ducts without taking off the entire dash.

Hi RFunk8422,

I double-checked the Haynes procedure against the GM factory service manual, and no, you don't have to remove the instrument panel. The only duct that would need to be removed is the one shown in illustration 11.6 - it's attached to the heater core cover. I must add that the vehicle shown in the Haynes book is an earlier model than yours, so that duct might look a little different, but the procedure is the same. By the way, GM refers to that duct as the "heater outlet case," but it's essentially the same thing.

Hope this helps, and thanks for your interest in Haynes manuals.
